He had learned this harsh truth as a child, the day his mother and unborn sister died. Overwhelmed by happiness at the sight of his family together, he lost control. His mother died in the resulting blaze, and from that moment on, he believed love was beyond him, that he was unworthy of any feeling. He vowed never to love and never to feel anything. Love, he believed, was a curse, a death sentence for those he held dear.
But his bleak, colorless world began to shift when a mysterious hand reached out and touched his fiery heart, soothing the raging flames. No one else had ever possessed the power to calm the inferno within him-but her. The fire allowed her near, drawing her in, and with her presence, he felt a dangerous new longing. A desire to claim the power that soothed his soul, to make her his own.
