Evolution is a combination of natural selection and survival of the fittest. So, I thought the fossil record must be full of creatures who, because they were unfit, were not selected by nature for survival. I thought that, for every successful species, there must be dozens who failed. I figured if there was Tyrannosaurus Rex, there must be a Tyrannosaurus Dud. If there were Triceratops, there should be Triceraflops. Turns out I was wrong. Nature doesn't quite work that way. Still, I had drawn the pictures and written most of the words so, what the heck.
Dickie Dougal's Big Book of Lesser Known Dinosaurs imagines a world beyond what we've seen at the museums or in the movies. It is the imagined story of natures less successful creatures set against the backdrop of one of natures greatest success stories, the dinosaurs who ruled the earth for a staggering 135 million years!
