Bang! Bang!
The gunshots rang loudly in my ears. I looked out from behind the car, and ducked back as quickly as possible, bullets flying past my head.
Bang!
Sweat beaded on my forehead as my chest rose and fell in my heavy breathing. I fumbled with my gun, my hands almost too sweaty to grip it correctly.
Bang! Bang!
"I'm going in!" Johnson called from beside me. I grabbed his arm.
"Are you nuts?"
Johnson looked me in my eyes.
Bang!
"Tell my wife I love her."
Johnson jumped over the hood of the car and whipped out his pistol.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Thud.
I gasped and looked over the hood at Johnson. He had caught a bullet to his forehead.
I gaped at my partner and felt my blood boil. I got my pistol ready and ran in front of the police car, unloading at the Mafia bitches that shot my partner.
One down. Then two. Three. Four. Five...
Soon, the entire cartel is lying in pools of blood. The short Boss, Eduardo, I believe, stood in horror as I pointed my pistol, with one bullet left, directly at his head.
"Any last words?"
Eduardo, sweat dribbling from his forehead, gulped and dropped his gun.
I pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Eduardo fell down face first onto the road. I drop my gun and turn to Johnson.
"Johnson! Buddy!" I pat his cheek and his eyes half open.
"Greene-" he starts. "Greene-"
"Yeah, partner?" I ask, putting my hand on his forehead, trying to stop the bleeding.
"What on earth is going on?!"
I frantically look up at my door, eyes wide as pie-plates.
"Mother!" I say. My mother walks into my room and picks up Johnson's body.
"You've marked on your doll!" She tries wiping the blood off of his forehead, but it's already dried. She looks at the Mafia bitches. "All of your dolls!"
She turns to me and looks at my clotbes.
"Marking on your dolls that your aunt made for you, and wearing men's clothes?!" She grabbed my wrist and pulled me up from the floor. "You are a woman, Amarillis! This is not lady like in the smallest sense! You had better begin acting as a lady, or you shall not be a suitable wife!"
"Is that a woman's only purpose?" I ask. "To be a suitable wife? I believe not! Why can't we do as men do? I should like to go to school, and learn to read and write!" I cross my arms. "All we do is clean and cook and sew! 'Tis disgraceful!"
Mother stared at me, mouth open as if I had an sickness. She gripped my wrist tighter.
"You should go, now, and change into proper clothing! And afterwards, you should clean your dolls and write to your aunt explaining what you've done!"
I furrowed my eyebrows. "But Mother-"
"Now, Amarillis!" She pointed to the door. I stamped my foot and walked off.
