Mikhailo rubbed his neck tiredly as he made his way towards his lecture hall. Today he was relatively dressed down due to lack of sleep. He was wearing black jeans, a white v-neck shirt with a black and grey flannel printed blazer. Same black sneakers he always wore. They were the most comfortable to stand in for long hours. He was about five foot ten and properly muscular but you wouldn't be able to tell unless his clothes were off. He looked to be in his early thirties. A sunkissed tan skin tone with light brown honey golden thick hair that was shorter on the sides than the top, recently being grown out from his normal crew cut. Always styled with the utmost attention to detail. Deep sunshine yellow and sunfire orange eyes that could practically hypnotize anyone. His irises had a vibrant bubblegum pink ring around them signifying that he was of Seelie decent. He was one of the most popular professors at the school. Not only for his looks but also for his enigmatic personality.
Mikhailo immediately began to write on the white board as soon as he entered the crowded room. "Kindred Souls: traditionally in the natural sense means someone with the same feelings or attitudes as oneself; a Kindred Spirit. In the Supernatural sense they are Sorcerers who perform magic together as lifelong partners, bound together by an oath, regardless of their gender." He spoke loud enough for the entire class to hear. He was always exactly on time and started teaching as soon as he walked through the door.
"What's the difference between Kindred Souls and Soulmates?" A young woman, named Amelia, with brown hair that transitioned into pink ends and pale skin questioned. Her eyes were a light brown that turned dark depending on the lighting. She was one of the more studious of his students.
It was fitting that she was a Wizard.
"Most Magi would argue that Kindred are closer than Soulmates. They have a closeness and willingness to lay down their lives for one another that goes beyond any romantic love, but also they share an oath—one sworn in front of the Council of Magi. A magical right and ritual that allows them to share energy with their bound soul. Unlike Soulmates who cannot share energy." He explained, facing the class.
"Aren't Soulmates also bound by an oath in front of the Council?" Amelia began writing each word he spoke in her notebook.
Not missing a single syllable.
"Yes, both rituals bond and enhance the natural feelings of love and friendship that already exist between the pair—however, Kindreds are not allowed to fall in love or be in a romantic relationship with their bound soul." Mikhailo replied as he stood in front of his desk, barely leaning against it for support.
"Why?" Another young woman interjected herself into the lecture. She had jet black long kinky curly hair and dark brown skin; she was a new student named Umbra. She had gorgeous ember orange eyes, which adorned the Seelie ring around her iris. Her presence commanded attention. And her strong aura made her raw power undeniable. She was gearing up to be an incredible young Sorcerer.
"Honestly, the reason has been lost over time. Most speculate that it's because Kindred can share their energy with their bonded soul to enhance spells or be able to perform more powerful magic. Kindred are more of a way to tie powerful Magi families to one another, so both mutual parties gain benefits from the bond. They are essentially able to share the magic between the families allowing both families to become more powerful. If Kindred were to fall in love, they could potentially use their bond to only benefit themselves and rebel against their families."
"Do you have a Kindred, Professor?" A young man, the class clown otherwise known as Bradley, joined the conversation. He was a stereotypical jock with dirty blonde hair, tan skin and blue eyes. He was an overly arrogant Sorcerer. Nothing incredibly special about him.
Mikhailo cleared his throat as he felt a sudden tugging on his heart strings causing him to pause for a moment before quickly snapping back into focus. "What's my first rule?" He asked the class.
"No personal questions." The entire class replied.
"Professor?" Amelia raised her hand.
"Yes." Mikhailo looked in her direction.
"Is it true that Kindred can share emotions and sensations?" She clutched her notebook with anticipation.
"Yeah, if you're having sex, can the other feel it?" Bradley grinned, getting multiple reactions from his peers.
"No." Mikhailo said sternly as a few of the students stifled chuckles, "It's more of an aura that you feel. It's like a sudden understanding, more than a sensation. You begin to understand and know your Kindred like you know yourself, and even in some cases, better than you know yourself. You can tell when they're happy and when they're sad; you know what emotions they are having when they are having them, as though you were subconsciously having them as well. But you can also learn to separate and compartmentalize your emotions, keeping them from your Kindred so you don't overwhelm them." Mikhailo crossed his arms against his chest.
"Is it true the farther away from your Kindred you are, the worse you feel? Like you can actually become physically ill?" Umbra chimed in once again, and a silence fell over the room.
"It can become soul crushing," Mikhailo replied.
