There are strange creatures out in the wilderness. The natives and the settlers have different names for them and tales about them. Freya grew up learning about the "vaesen", the "hidden folk" from her parents before they died.
Now Freya is practically alone, her twin brother out on a cattle drive, leaving her only with their childhood friend and the barrier his family helped them erect to keep the vaesen out.
When Freya gets herself into a bit of trouble and is saved by a strange vaesen from far across the sea, she finds herself strangely drawn to him. He needs her in order to heal from past wounds and restore himself to full strength.
But what will happen if she submits to his desires? Will he keep his word, or will he devour her in more ways than one?
