When Joel Farber, an embittered man shackled by his own fallacy of misguided convictions, finds himself now dead, he enters a dark and uncertain afterlife with the questionable help of a strange Grim Reaper, an enigmatic man named Kai Haldersen.
Haldersen, a jaded psychopomp, finds himself clashing with his ornery passenger into the Afterlife, while Farber employs every ounce of obstinacy to question and outwit this hard-nosed Reaper.
Will Haldersen reveal the truth of Joel's life? Will Joel learn of the consequences of living a self-absorbed life?
What does the puzzling object, the pearl, that Joel carries, signify?
