I like telling stories, and I like drawing. So comics seem quite obvious in retrospect, although I didn't put the two together until 2002, when I started my first webcomic, and I’ve been enjoying the storytelling ever since. Nobody's Library is my fifth webcomic; A Pocketful of Clouds, which is also here on Tapas, is my fourth and longest-running webcomic, now complete.

I’m a Christian and a molecular biologist; I study the genetics of deafness by day and draw comics at night. And the weekends. I’m a member of Sweatdrop Studios, a UK-based independent publisher and comics collaborative, and most of my comics are available in paper form through their shop and in digital form online, so do check them out, and happy reading :)

Hey there, all the lovely people who have subscribed to my comics (and book). This is the first time I've done this, and it looks like I can't specify which subscribers to share this post with, so apologies to those of you who are already reading Nobody's Library (ahead of the game!), this is mostly aimed at all the lovely subscribers to A Pocketful of Clouds. I just wanted to let you all know that I do now have another webcomic going, so if you enjoyed A Pocketful of Clouds, please check out Nobody's Library. And if you like reading text as well as text-with-pictures, I also have an ongoing book, The Emperor's Hound, which you might like to have a look at. Thank you and happy reading ^^

Hi! I just randomly stumbled across your comic and I saw in your description that you are a molecular biologist, which is awesome!! :D I want to study molecular biology after I graduate high school. So, I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of stuff YOU do specifically, just to get a deeper understanding than the "career crusing" description I got from school. Thank you for taking the time to read comment.

Hey, thanks for the sub and the interesting question :) I study the genetics of progressive hearing loss, which is both a big challenge and great fun, and I'm lucky enough to be able to do both wet lab work and bioinformatics. I have recently been looking at whole exome sequencing of patients with adult-onset hearing loss to see if I can identify genes which are more commonly mutated in people with hearing loss compared to elderly people with good hearing. The ultimate aim is to identify candidate genes and pathways we can affect using drugs, in order to prevent or delay adult-onset hearing loss.

There's an old interview here you might find interesting - it's about an older project from back in 2009, when we'd just made a really interesting discovery. We're still working on the project :) https://www.sanger.ac.uk/news/view/2009-04-12-new-insights-into-hearing-loss

Your best bet is to research the groups in your local university and ask if you can do work experience or shadow somebody for a day or two. Most people will be happy to help and it shows good initiative if you've gone looking for experience yourself :) We've had high school students for up to two weeks - some of them even did a little project.

Hi, thanks for the invite. Your comic looks like there's plenty of action on the way - good luck with it. But I'm keeping my subscriptions to a minimum at the moment because I'm pushed for time. I'd rather people subscribed to A Pocketful of Clouds because they want to read it, so I'll pass on the subscriptions swap, thanks.
