Hello there! Your magnificent art has lured another man to here to click the button xD One question though, where did you get the name Lapis, because in my language it means Pencil and I am trying to correlate your cool comic to frigging pencils Lmao.

Hi Deriant (=w=)ゞ

Haha, we've had several readers tell us that Lapis means Pencil in Filipino. That was definitely not what we had in mind when we were thinking up a title for the series. Originally I wanted to find a meaning that was simple and one worded but still held some sort of meaning to the series. Then I found out that Lapis means Stone in Latin (which I can only assume correlates with the lapis in lapis lazuli) and out of all the potential titles we had, AresGears (artist) liked Lapis the most. Thus Lapis became the name of our series. =P

I love language mate, it leads to such cultural confusion such as this one xD

You're an amazing artist! I wish I could get this good...! How long have you been drawing for? And how long did it take to plan your comic out? (I bet it took a really long time for the story plot of the comic! Yeeesh...!)

Thanks a ton! I'm the illustrator of Lapis (I go by the artist name, AresGear). I've been drawing for as long as I could hold a pen (or pencil)--but only very recently (i.e. last 3-4 years) did I start seriously doing coloured art. In terms of planning the comic, my writer and myself basically came up with the rough concept of a story on a whim. The writer does the planning (I'll let her talk about that--even I have to look forward to reading more of the script!)

Haha. It must seem pretty odd to get two different responses from the "same" person, my apologies for that =P. I'm the writer of Lapis (alias: Requiem-of-Rain). To answer your second question, the overall plot didn't take that long to think up. Probably less than an hour haha. However, I like keeping an air of mystery around some of the plot. AresGear isn't kidding when she says even she has to look forward to reading more of the script; I like to keep her in the dark about some things xP. She's like a VVVVVVIP reader. That way you guys can all look forward for what's in store ;)

Thanks! I appreciate the answers a ton! I hope your story does amazing in the future! I mean- it already is! Getting two different answers is fun too! It's like getting double the rewards points on your bank of america card (I think that's what the commercial said...?) . I like how you mixed your alias together to make Gears of Rain. I'll be your fan forever! XD

For those of you who have noticed, I do colouring in three different styles :D. Grayscale, solid colour and paint. Painting takes a super long time for me to do (I'm working on that) so I usually stick about 1 or 2 of those in a gray scale fragment. For solid colours, they take longer than grayscale, but shorter than painting, so I can make a whole fragment using solid colours!

(most of the time, I stick with grayscale and 2-3 painted panels, but bonuses are gonna be solid colours!)

You're so good at art! Any tips for an aspiring artist? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Oh shoot I didn't see this--the illustrator here. My writer partner told me someone had a question but I kept looking through the comics but couldn't find it.
I won't be able to go into much detail via a comment, but some tips would be:
1) Don't get too caught up with the final product from the get-go (you want to know the general shapes and positions of things you're drawing first--worst thing is drawing a super detailed and beautiful eye, for example, then having no idea how to fit the nose and other features with regards to the eye. I've done this a lot and seen it happen to many others, trust me)
2) Start with simple shapes. For example, a cat is literally a circle and two triangles, then you just start playing around with it
3) Try out ALL the media! If you're a traditional paper-and-canvas artist, try out different paints, pencils, pens, brushes and use them in different ways--they create awesome textures and you won't know which one you love or find useful until you try them out (your first few art pieces using new techniques might not turn out so great, but it's all for testing out what works best for you). If you're digital--same thing. There's hundreds of brushes you can try out on your default program alone--and you can download tons more from various artists online. The most important thing is trying them out to see what works well!
4) Practice. I'm sure everyone says that. But seriously--draw even if you're happy, sad, angry, bored; your pet died, you just went travelling, the world is burning around you, you were studying for 5 hours straight for an exam the next day--any time is a good time to practice drawing (please don't go to extremes for this)

Some people have been asking us about setting up a support program for Lapis! We'd love to hear your suggestions on what sort of rewards you would like to see on our Tapastic (can't promise we'll take all suggestions, so don't feel bad--BUT we'll do our best to make these work!) :D

Thanks guys!
