Merry Christmas!!!! :D
Here's a Christmas tune for you... https://soundcloud.com/paul-duffield-28069633/jingle-bells and a piece of fanart I managed to finish before the hols :D
Your art looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better and more skillful than the art in the series itself. Couldn't watch it, my eyes were bleeding. But your art here looks just amazing!
Ah, thanks, but there were much more talented artists than me attached to the show. Unfortunately, it was low budget, so the frame-to-frame animation never lived up to the designs, but the story-boarding was brilliant, the timing was always on point and the designs were brilliant - a couple of my fav artists were on the initial design team! (not least Jisoo Kim, whose art is so lovely it makes me melt https://www.instagram.com/jisookimcat/ )
Ever since the first frames this series screams LOW BUDGET, and it's really so sad, because yeah, the backgrounds, for example are awesome and very much with respect to the original series (which I am a hardcore fan of), but they were just underdone and raw, which is why they all look sort of flat, and that's a huge pity, that this show had to come out so poorly executed, despite the designs being all that promising. (((
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE ON THE GREGORIAN CALENDAR! (to everyone else, HAPPY DAY!)
2018 is going to be a big year for The Firelight Isle - I've made sure I'll be able to continue the steady release of episodes that I started up again in October, and if all goes to plan I'll be collecting the first volume of the story (Ribbons 1-18) together in print, too! Can't wait to share it all with you, and best of luck in your own ventures...
Fancy reading The Firelight Isle in ONE GIANT CONTINUOUS PAGE because you're mad or bored or both or neither?? I just put it up on my website... https://www.paulduffield.co.uk/firelightisle-tall
@yumehop I'd love to! I've wanted to do this for a while, but I've been running into dead-ends trying to find a printer who can do it - my best idea to-date is just printing it by hand and sticking the pages end-to-end.
COOL NEWS!! I'm working with a colouring assistant on The Firelight Isle now, the very talented Kate Brown, which means I'm able to keep up an even more regular schedule ^_^ There'll be a new ribbon up NEXT WEEK!! WOOP!
In the meantime, things have been going so well that I've had some time for some fanart, so I'll leave you with this!
Guess who's back?? Meeeeee! And by the end of this week, there'll be a new ribbon of The Firelight Isle for you!
Me and my partner, Kate, have now moved into our very own house, after literally 6 months of madness trying to close the sale and moving out of our old flat (including a stint of not having a home).
That's why I've been so quiet lately, but now I'm back in full-swing, and working on The Firelight Isle for at least an hour every evening.
It feels great to be back - I hope you enjoy the new pages!
Stay tuned for more updates and more great news on Friday :D
